Annual Tuition

The Annual Enrollment Tuition for the 2026/2027 academic year consists of an installment of €500.00 + €4,300.00, payable in installments.

In addition, each year the student must pay the regional tax for the Right to University Education, following the procedures indicated by the Regional Agency for the Right to University Education of Basilicata (A.R.D.S.U.). The amount of the Regional Tax is available at this link.

*The total annual enrollment cost is the same for all students, regardless of income.

Discounts and Scholarships

Istituto del Design offers discounts for high-achieving students or those who pre-enroll by May 31st, in addition to scholarships and services supporting the right to education as provided by the Regional Agency for the Right to University Education of Basilicata (ARDSU):

Excellence Award for Incoming Students, A.Y. 2026/2027

IdD Matera rewards excellence: high-achieving students are an important and meaningful asset for IdD Matera.

To encourage and recognize student merit, our award is granted solely on the basis of the results achieved in the final high school exam.

For the 2026/2027 academic year, IdD will award:

Scholarships and A.R.D.S.U. Services, Basilicata Region

Istituto del Design in Matera is part of the national university system and is included in the list of University Institutes of the Basilicata Region.

To receive a scholarship, both students residing in Basilicata and out-of-town students (not resident in Basilicata) can apply to A.R.D.S.U., the Regional Agency for the Right to University Education of the Basilicata Region.

Each year, A.R.D.S.U. publishes a call for applications for scholarships, fulfilling a duty set out in the Italian Constitution: “to guarantee to all capable and deserving students, even those without means, the opportunity to reach the highest levels of education.”

“Per Merito” Loan for University Studies

In addition to discounts and scholarships, IdD students can also count on financial support designed by Intesa Sanpaolo to help them expand their skills.

“Per Merito” is a loan that any student residing in Italy can obtain, the only requirement being good academic standing in their chosen course of study, with no guarantee required. It can be used to cover tuition fees, purchase study materials, pay for accommodation, and anything else needed to pursue one’s studies with peace of mind.

Payment Methods

Enrollments are accepted in chronological order until all available places are filled.

University Expense Tax Deduction

Expenses incurred for attending university courses at both public and private universities are tax-deductible on the income tax return.

Article 15, paragraph 1, letter e) of the TUIR (Italian Income Tax Code) allows for a deduction from gross tax of 19% of the expenses incurred for attending university courses at public and private universities, up to the amount set for Italian public universities.

Every year, by December 31st, a specific annual Decree from the MUR (Ministry of University and Research) sets the maximum amounts deductible from gross income tax in relation to enrollment fees and contributions for attending degree courses at private universities.

Rental Expense Deduction

Expenses incurred by out-of-town university students enrolled in a degree course at an Italian public or private university located in a municipality other than their municipality of residence are deductible, for rental agreements duly signed and registered or renewed under the law governing residential leases (Law No. 431 of December 9, 1998), or for hospitality contracts, as well as for assignment or lease agreements entered into with organizations for the right to education, universities, legally recognized university colleges, non-profit organizations, and cooperatives.

To qualify for the deduction, the university must be located in a municipality at least 100 km from the student’s municipality of residence and in any case in a different province, or in the territory of a European Union member state.
