The Course

Bachelor’s Degree in Design (180 ECTS – EQF Level 6)

The Bachelor’s Degree in Design aims to provide students with a broad and in-depth acquisition of specialized knowledge and skills in Product, Interior, Graphic, Exhibit Design and Visual Communication. Here, students acquire fundamental logical and technological tools to support their creativity, to operate in a conscious and interdisciplinary way in the wide field of design.

Methodology and Structure

Students will learn how to intervene on spaces and create new ones, to design fittings and installations, interior furnishings, develop products and create brands. Also, they will learn how to express themselves by carrying out theoretical and practical subjects and participating in laboratories, masterclasses and workshops. At IdD we train professional designers able to design spaces and objects and visual communication professionals, new eco-sustainable concepts, products bringing to life new start-ups, creators of new products in step with the times.

Workshops allow you to experiment, to apply creativity to real cases, collaborating with artisan laboratories, professional studios, companies, organizations and institutions.

IdD offers unconventional, but revolutionary and innovative learning: we believe in the continuous comparison of the academic system and the business world, which is the reason why we promote lots of laboratory and research activities, as well as internships in partner companies and studios.

Learn by making

Students can use the laboratories, the spaces and the study rooms of the campus, which have been created to meet their learning needs and more. The Design and Graphics labs are equipped with last generation equipment and tools to allow students to design, practice and experiment.

IdD is located in the central heart of the city of Matera, one of the oldest cities in the world, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1993, and European Capital of Culture in 2019. It has been an important place of experimentation, innovation, and attraction for great filmmakers and artists since the 1950s, and it is now one of Europe’s main cities of art.

Matera is located not only at the centre of South Italy but also of the Mediterranean area, highlighting the richness and diversity of cultures — of which it constitutes a crossroads — as well as the shared characteristics that increase the sense of belonging of European citizens, promoting culture as a tool for the city’s development.
